چکیده
THIS STUDY invesrigared the order of acquisition of phonological sensitivity skills among preschool and kinderganen children. Phonological sensitiviiy was examined in terms of four lc:vels of linguistic coniplexit\' (words, syllables, onsets and rimes, phonemes) across four levels of task complexity (blending detection, elision detection, blending, and elision). Participants were 947 twoto five-year-old children from diverse backgrounds. Hierarchical loglinear analyses evidenced a quasi-parallel pattern of development that corresponded to a hierarchical model of word structtire and a working memory model of task complexity. Findings support a developmental conceptualization of phonological sensitivit)'. Findings are discussed in relation to their implications for improving assessment, early literacy instruction, and prevention of reading difficulties. Phonological sensitivfty: A quasi-parallel progression of word structure unfts and cognitive operations Sensibilidad fonologica: Una progresion cuasi paralela de unidades estructurales de las palabras y operaciones cognitivas Phonologische Sensitivitat: Eine quasi-parallele Anreihung von Wortstruktureinheiten und kognitiver Anwendungen

On Broca, brain, and binding: a new framework.
In speaking and comprehending language, word information is retrieved from memory and combined into larger units (unification). Unification operations take place in parallel at the semantic, syntactic and phonological levels of processing. This article proposes a new framework that connects psycholinguistic models to a neurobiological account of language. According to this proposal the left inf...
متن کاملWord clustering effect on vocabulary learning of EFL learners: A case of semantic versus phonological clustering
The aim of this study is to determine the effect of word clustering method on vocabulary learning of Iranian EFL learners through a case of semantic versus phonological clustering. To this effect, 80 homogeneous students from four intermediate classes at an English institute in Torbat e Heydariyeh participated in this research. They were assigned to four groups according to semantic versus phon...

Objective: The main objective of this study was to investigate the explicit memory bias in the people with high BAS/BIS sensitivity in the different manipulated mood states. Methods: By using purposive sampling method, seventy-four participants (undergraduate students) were selected based on z-scores of 480 using the Carver and White’s BAS/BIS scale. They were distributed as: 24 wi...
متن کاملInfant speech perception bootstraps word learning.
By their first birthday, infants can understand many spoken words. Research in cognitive development has long focused on the conceptual changes that accompany word learning, but learning new words also entails perceptual sophistication. Several developmental steps are required as infants learn to segment, identify and represent the phonetic forms of spoken words, and map those word forms to dif...
متن کاملToward a Language-General Account of Word Production: The Proximate Units Principle.
Theories of language production are monolingual but the world is multilingual. In the domain of word-form encoding, it is clear that languages rely differentially on different phonological units, challenging the generality of the monolingual theories. To address this, we propose the proximate units principle, which holds that the initial selection of sub-lexical phonological units (syllables, m...
